What colour eyes will YOUR baby have?

May 22, 2016  16:58

Did you know if you have green eyes and your partner has brown eyes your baby could have blue eyes?

A video shared on My Child Magazine Australia's Facebook page has crunched the numbers and shows the likelihood of a baby having a certain eye colour based on what their parents have.

For example, if you have green eyes and your partner has brown eyes your child is 50 per cent more likely to have brown eyes, but also has a 38 per cent chance of having green eyes and a 12 per cent chance of having blue eyes.

If you have blue eyes and your partner has brown, there's a 50-50 chance your baby will have either of those colours, according to the video.

While if both parents have green eyes, their baby has a 75 per cent chance of having the same colour, a 24 per cent chance of having blue eyes and a one per cent chance of having brown eyes.

Eye colour is a hereditary trait from parents and determines a baby's eye colour.

One eye colour can be more expressive, or dominant, than another, and can therefore dictate what a baby's eye colour will be.

Brown eyes are dominant over green or blue, while green is always dominant over the recessive blue eyes gene.
