Smart two-year-old boy saved his mother’s life

A smart two-year-old boy saved his mother’s life by managing to call 999 when she collapsed. This call saved his mother Dana Henry’s life.

Dana had woken up with stomach pains but didn’t pay much attention to them. She fell to the floor after making a cup of tea. Her two-year-old son Riley Ward who was just learning to talk took the phone and called 999 telling operators: “Mummy’s on the floor!”

Then Riley repeatedly said “hello” and kept operators on the line, so the ambulance service managed to trace the address and send medics to Dana’s home, which was located at Barrow Upon Soar, Leicestershire, UK. The doctors discovered a large blood clot and dangerous bleed on Dana’s ovary, so the woman was taken to hospital for emergency surgery for a blood clot.

Now Dana is fine, and Riley has been rewarded with an award for his brave actions by East Midlands Ambulance Service who believe he is their youngest ever caller.

Riley’s parents told Daily Mail that they had taught their children to call 999 in case something happened, yet they didn’t thinka two-year-old boy could remember that and do what was necessary.

Riley’s mother said: “It’s made me proud that Riley knew what to do. We knew he remembered 999, but were so shocked he was able to put it into action.”
