Paralyzed man in China writes hieroglyphs using neural implants placed in his brain

A 76-year-old paralyzed Chinese man was able to write hieroglyphs using neural implants placed in his brain, scientists at the Zhejiang University in China have said, reported by the Zhongxinshe news portal.

According to specialists, the aforesaid device decoded the patient's brain signals and transmitted the appropriate command to the mechanical manipulator, which wrote hieroglyphs on the blackboard. The accuracy of the neural implants' recognition of Chinese characters, the images of which were presented by a man during the experiment, was about 91%.

In the future, such research will be able to help a considerable number of patients with limited mobility, noted the aforementioned university. In particular, they will be able to control the exoskeletons, which are being developed for patients who have lost their mobility, with the power of their minds.

Earlier, it was reported in the journal Nature Medicine that a group of Russian and American neurophysiologists managed to restore the ability of a paralyzed man to walk by placing electrodes in the damaged part of his spinal cord.
