Why lots of women book Brazilians before giving birth?

February 23, 2015  13:59

A professional waxer has spilled the beans on what it's like to remove the bodily hair from women's nether regions for a living, and why she 'has never quite understood' clients who schedule sessions during their periods.

Writing anonymously for Refinery 29, Mrs X, as we shall call her, reveals: 'I've had clients where I've seen them before their first baby, and I gave them a Brazilian before they gave birth - which a lot of women request,' she writes.

'It's kind of like preparing them for a big life moment and giving them a little bit more confidence or control before this massive event happens.'

Mrs X adds that performing bikini waxes on heavily pregnant women is 'always really difficult' because they are more sensitive to pain, and, practically speaking, harder to reach.

She admits that post-birth, 'things down there change a little', and says she enjoys the sometimes decades-long relationships she garners with her clients.

Mrs X does have her fair share of horror stories.

'Nightmare' clients have included a woman who insisted on keeping and taking home every used piece of hard wax in paper towels, 'to see how much [hair] was removed'.

She also refers to a client who got 'turned on' during bikini waxes, and would 'moan' with pleasure every time she ripped a strip.

'Finally, I finished the service and left the spa room, but she ended up staying in there with the door closed for almost a half-hour,' Mrs X writes. 'God knows what was going on.'

Overall, however, Mrs X appears to find her job rewarding, and feels a sense of camaraderie with her clients during their intimate sessions.

'You're sort of in it together,' she concludes.
