October is breast cancer awareness month

It’s time to go pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

During the month of October, which marks the annual campaign to increase awareness of breast cancer prevention and to raise funds, hundreds of thousand of people across the nation don pink apparel to stand together in the fight against breast cancer. The month is also filled with activities and events to raise awareness about the disease, which is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation Inc., breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women.

Each year it is estimated that more than 220,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die. Although the disease is rare in men, an estimated 2,150 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 410 will die each year.
