Baby with 2 heads who was described as a 'gift from God' dies just hours after being born

February 20, 2017  15:33

A baby boy who was described as a 'gift from God' after having two heads died just hours after birth.

The unnamed boy - who shared his body with a separate skull - was born to parents Nasreen, 30, and Naseem Mohammad, 34.

They only discovered the malformation during an ultrasound scan the day before he was born, local sources claim.

The proud couple - who have four other children - apparently told doctors they were 'ready to accept a child under any circumstances'.

The baby was born via Caesarean section in SP Hospital in Yamunanagar, Haryana, India, on Wednesday, but only survived a few hours.

A local source said: 'The couple came to know of the two heads just one day prior to operation.

'They didn't have any scan. The parents were astonished but they were ready to accept a child under any circumstance.

'Doctors said the baby was a 'miraculous child' while the parents said he was a "wonderful gift of god".'

Siamese twins, or conjoined twins as they are known to medics, occur in about one in 100,000 pregnancies.

Medical literature states conjoined twins develop when a woman produces just one egg that doesn't fully seperate after being fertilised.

The developing embryo then begins to split into identical twins during the first few weeks but stops before the process is complete.

Experts say the partially separated egg then develops into a conjoined foetus.

Most conjoined twins don't survive because their organs are unable to support their bodily needs.

It is estimated that 40 per cent are not alive when they are delivered while 35 per cent die within a day of being born.
