Princess of Jordan: It is not easy to fight cancer, even if you are princess

It is not easy to fight cancer, even if you are a princess, said Princess Dina Mired, a newly elected chairman of the International League for Cancer Control, in a conversation with journalists at the Hematology Center in Yerevan. The princess took up the problem of treating cancer, when her son got sick.

"I never thought I would be in a ‘cancer world’, but God set me on this path, when my son had a cancer at the age of two. I felt the same as any mother. I was in shock, I was scared, and I was very worried. I have passed through all this. At that time in Jordan there was no proper cancer treatment, so I had to go abroad. And my son was lucky, he was cured.

Princess Dina Mired came to Armenia to participate in the Congress of the winners of cancer by invitation of the head of the Armenian Association of Hematology and Oncology Gevorg Tamamyan, who met her a year ago in the International League for Control of Cancer Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), when she was elected a chairwoman.

"I was very excited about a possibility to visit beautiful Armenia. You know, there is an Armenian community in Jordan, and its members often talk about this wonderful country. The second most important reason for my trip was a desire to come and see your achievements in the fight against cancer, "said the princess.

She noted, that she saw a wonderful Hematology Center here and added that if the Hematological Center of Armenia needs certain technologies, new methods of treatment, UICC can be an excellent platform for exchange of experience and knowledge.

Dina Mired told about the City Cancer Challenge program, a new initiative of UICC, the main idea of which is to involve all the interested persons of the city in the development, planning and implementation of solutions for cancer treatment. Cities will be encouraged and supported for three years. In her opinion, Armenia can also claim to be included in this program.

"The first thing that impressed me in Armenia were people. There are wonderful people living here, and I see how close you are to each other, you all have a strong sense of national identity. I like all your traditions - dancing and, of course, your food, "said Princess Deena Mired.
