2017 Aurora Prize finalist, doctor Tom Catena would like to obtain aspirators for vacuum therapy of wounds for Mother of Mercy Hospital in Sudan’s Nuba mountains, where he has been working for years.

In an interview with NEWS.am Medicine, he said that in an Armenian hospital he saw such equipment, which contributes to faster healing of acute or chronic wounds. According to Catena, these aspirators can be useful in his work in Sudan where he often operates on or treats patients, including small children, who suffered serious wounds in war.

Catena expects Armenia’s assistance  in obtaining 2-3 of such aspirators for the Sudanese hospital.

2017 Aurora Prize Finalist doctor Tom Catena delivered a public lecture at the Yerevan State Medical University after M. Heratsi on May 22. He presented his experience and challenges as a doctor in the Mother of Mercy Hospital of war-torn Sudan where he has been working for years. Dr. Tom Catena is the only surgeon at the hospital serving the area with more than 700,000 population.
