Deaf baby hears her mother for the first time

Charly Keane, entered the world in August 2017 but was born severely deaf.

According to Good Housekeeping Charly's condition was initially dismissed as a fluid blockage, but further tests found that she had bilateral profound congenital hearing loss.

Charly's parents Christy and Daniel managed to acquire a hearing aid to help with Charly's condition and the pair captured the moment it was first turned on.

The response from Charly is magnificent.

The video, which was shared earlier this week, has since gone viral on social media.

Speaking to Good Housekeeping, Christy shared her thoughts on this special moment:

‘I had never in my life seen that face before.

I'm her mother, and I know the look in her eyes when she's sad, upset or hurting, and that connection, and that moment when our eyes met and she heard my voice for the first time, that was true emotion from her.

All this time that we had spent sad that she wasn't able to hear us, all that pain went away.’

Charly will now work with a speech therapist so that she can learn to talk.

Meanwhile, her parents have begun to explore the possibility of having cochlear implants installed, a device that will effectively replace the damaged part of her ears.

Christy added:

‘She's taught me so much about connection, engagement and perspective that I otherwise wouldn't have even had the possibility of knowing.

Every day, we experience a miracle when we put her hearing aids in and get to see her smile.’
