Mum who had eight miscarriages gives birth to beautiful baby boy on New Year's Day

A mum who has suffered the heartache of eight miscarriages has welcomed the new year with a beautiful baby boy.

Emma Parker and her husband Craig welcomed Charlie Al-Derrick Parker into the world at 11.30am on New Year's Day.

The couple had been trying for a baby for six years and had conceived eight times, only for the pregnancies to end in miscarriages.

They then went through two rounds of IVF which failed, but they then conceived again naturally.

Charlie was one of the first babies to arrive at Lincoln County Hospital in 2018.

Charlie, who weighed 5lb 13oz, was due on January 9 but due to complications was delivered today by cesarean section.

The couple said they were delighted at the birth of their son and could not wait to take him home.

Charlie's middle name 'Al-Derrick' is a tribute to both Emma's grandparents, Lincolnshire Live reports.

Her grandmother Alma died a year ago in January 2017, while her grandfather Derrick now lives with the couple.

Emma, of Harpswell near Gainsborough, said due to the amount of miscarriages they had been through in the past, they didn't initially feel confident at the beginning of her pregnancy.

“When we got past 20 weeks we felt a little more confident," she added.

"But we were worried again after 37 weeks due to health issues and I have been monitored in last few weeks.

“It is going to be really nice to have a baby at New Year as it is around the same time Grandma died. Since grandma passed away, Granddad is living with us and it will give him a new lease of life to have a baby around.”

Dad Craig said: “We are looking forward to spoiling him and there’s lots of people waiting to meet him. It’s a totally different love you have when a baby is born.”

Emma and Craig were not the only one couple starting 2018 with a brand new addition to the family.

Saxilby couple Nathan Mulhall, 20, and Ella Chase, 17, only met at new year last year - and marked their first anniversary together with the birth of their daughter.

Tallulah Ivy Mulhall was born four weeks early at 7.24am. She was due on February 1 and weighed 6lb 9 and a half oz.

Ella was at home when she felt twinges. She went to Lincoln County Hospital on December 31.

Ella said: “Today is our anniversary of when we first met in Lincoln. We were not expecting the year to turn out like this when we celebrated New Year last year."

Nathan’s mum Joanne Elgie was at the hospital with the couple when they spoke to Lincolnshire Live today.

She said: "Nathan is very emotional, overwhelmed and thrilled.

“We are all going to have lots of fun with this new baby. I have only got boys, this is the first girl I will be close to. I will be sending her home with nails painted pink.”

Ava Grace Wands was also one of the first babies born in 2018 at Lincoln County.

Mum and dad, Mairead and Phil, saw in the New Year and went to bed at around 12.30am. But Mairead was then woken by labour pains and they called an ambulance.

She was taken to hospital and baby Ava was born very soon after at 8am weighing 7lb 2oz.

The couple are originally from Scotland but living Scampton where Phil is an aircraft technician for Red Arrows.

Phil said: “It is really lovely, a great way to see in the New Year. It means she will have a great party every year. Being Scottish, New Year is very special to us and it will be even more special now.

“It was a lovely surprise and mum is made up.”

“It’s an odd feeling to have a wee person to look after. We are really excited.”

And Arabella Jane O’Boyle was born via cesarean section at 9.39am and weighed 8lb 2oz.

She was due on December 25 and is the first child of Carrie-Ann Mitchell and Shane O’Boyle from Harby.

Dad said he was delighted and he said they had good view of the fireworks as the labour ward is fairly high up in the hospital.
