Mother who compares herself to Benjamin Button because she is 'ageing backwards'

November 6, 2018  19:37

A mother-of-two claims to be 'ageing backwards' and says she is often mistaken for a 15-year-old.

Alice Dawson, 31, from Colchester, Essex, has told how she recently shared a picture of her as a teenager, along with a recent snap of herself.

But to her surprise pals soon claimed she looked like a middle-aged woman in the picture taken when she was just 15, whereas she appears a youthful 'teenager' in photos now.

Sporting a bob cut and fringe, minimal makeup and a tightly wrapped stripy scarf, the 15-year-old Alice could be mistaken for a woman twice her age.

But Alice says she is now mistaken for someone half her age thanks to her youthful appearance.

Alice says she still regularly gets asked for her ID on nights out - despite being 13 years over the legal drinking age limit.

The mother credits her youthful looks to following a good skincare routine, drinking plenty of water and eating a better diet than in her younger years.

Speaking about the reaction she gets from friends and strangers, Alice, said: 'I agree that I have an element of Benjamin Button about me.  I do suppose I am going backwards.

'I don't really know why I look older in that picture than I do in the now picture. It's a really bad, bad look.

'I know there will come a point where I won't look younger and I'll start to look older but at the moment I think I'm doing quite well.

'A lot of people have said I look older in the other photo. I find that quite surprising because in person I think I've aged quite badly from sun beds and things like that.

'But then a lot of people do say I do look young for my age so I can't look that bad.

'I used to get asked for ID all the time until two years ago, and now I only get checked for ID when I go out out,' she added.

'I've never been accused of having fake ID but some people have looked up and gone 'really?'. They do look surprised when they see my birthday.'

Alice continued: 'I quite like being thought of as younger. Sometimes it annoys me a little bit because I feel like I look too young.

'I know that sounds stupid, but I just say 'I wish people would take me seriously like I'm an adult'.'

Despite thinking she has always had a young face, Alice admitted even she was surprised by her teenage looks when she discovered the picture hidden in the back of her mum's drawer.

She shared the photo online as a 'glow up' - but admits she was surprised when people mistook her for a teenager now.

Alice, who is a stay at home mum, said: 'I was expecting comments about being ugly as a teenager but I wasn't expecting them to say I look younger now than I did then.

'I never felt like I looked older when I was younger. Even my mum used to say to me that I have a young face.

'When I looked at that picture of myself I thought 'I don't remember ever thinking I looked like that'.

'I saw it and I was just like 'oh my god'. I'd forgotten about it and didn't even remember this photo existed until then.

'Back in the day we didn't have contouring and all that stuff we do now. I had no clue how to do makeup and that kind of thing so maybe that's why I look older.

'I think my face has slimmed out a bit and my features show out a bit more too. I don't know if that's why I look younger now.'

Alice claims she never used to moisturise her skin as a teenager but now swears by coconut oil as her go-to skin care product.

She also avoids eating fried food and drinks just water throughout the day to keep herself refreshed.

Alice said: 'I see my wrinkles but when I point it out to everyone else they say I'm an idiot and I don't have any.

'But I don't know if they're just saying that to be nice or if it's just me. You can see imperfections in yourself more than other people can.

'I definitely have some around my eyes but I suppose everyone does really. I really hope I carry on ageing well.'
