Single men stink and women are into it: study

February 6, 2019  17:43

A new study, published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology, confirms that guys without partners actually smell noticeably worse than their cuffed counterparts.

Researchers from Macquarie University in Australia enlisted 82 heterosexual women to sniff the sweaty armpits of a group of coupled — and uncoupled — men. Sure enough, the unattached dudes, who were all between the ages of 18 and 35, consistently rated higher on the smelly scale.

The results have nothing to do with whether bachelors have poor hygiene.

Instead, the study was intended to show that uncoupled men produce more testosterone than partnered ones. Higher levels of the male hormone are associated with stronger body odor, which can explain the distinctive eau de single guy.

Meanwhile, the female sniffers also frequently rated the bachelor’s faces as more “masculine” than those of the subjects who were in relationships. This is likely due to elevated — and apparently intoxicating — testosterone levels as well.
