Are 'dead bedrooms' sucking the life out of relationships?

April 11, 2019  21:31

“Dead bedrooms,” the buzzy new term for when couples in long-term relationships stop having sex, are on a zombie-apocalypse-like rise. In fact, intercourse has run its course for much of America: The number of people who haven’t gotten any in a year is at an all-time high.
A new study from BodyLogicMD surveyed over 1,000 couples plagued by the no-sex bug to find out what’s keeping them from making the beast with two backs

One in 10 respondents said they haven’t had sex in multiple years. One in five couples has sex only two to three times a year. Just about one-fourth of couples have sex only once a month.

Unfortunately, this hump isn’t one that most couples get over easily. Almost 40 percent of “dead bedroom” spells last for one to five years. A small but deadly amount, 0.1 percent, last 21 to 25 years.

The most common cause of death? A stressful job. Over half the respondents cited work stress as a stab in the back for their sex life. Other top reasons include weight gain, lack of communication and, in no surprise to parents, having kids.

Almost 20 percent of people are willing to turn themselves in as the sex murderer. A large portion of the people surveyed, 46 percent, said it was both their faults.

Dead bedrooms are not always a nail in the relationship coffin. Over 30 percent of women and 22 percent of men said they would be fine never having sex again. Dun dun dun.
