Woman drops 4 dress sizes after ditching bread and butter

Bread with a helping of real butter was one of Dawne Dickey's biggest weaknesses.

The mum-of-three had struggled with her weight for a number of years but when it started affecting her health she knew she had to take action.

Tipping the scales at just over 19 stone, the 45-year-old decided enough was enough and after she came across the Lisburn WST Community group everything changed.

The Ballynahinch woman is three stone lighter and is now wearing size 16 clothes after previously having to buy size 22-24.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Dawne said the secret to her success was a lifestyle change, thanks to the support of the WST Community group, as well as cutting out her love of bread and real butter.

"Sixteen or seventeen years ago I lost a lot of weight but I put it all on again with health complications," said Dawne.

"Then I saw the ad for WST starting a group in Lisburn so I thought I would join, that was three years ago in August and I was just over 19 stone when I joined.

"It was affecting my health, I have arthritis in my knees and that was my big issue, I also have rheumatoid arthritis in my hands and feet which made moving difficult."

Joining the group meant changing her attitude towards food and not using the word 'diet'. Cooking became about healthy, home-made, wholesome food and cutting out anything processed.

"Cutting out bread and cereal was a big thing for me," she said.

"Bread and real butter would be my downfall. I do have treat days and if I fancy some I will but that is the difference, you are not on a diet. You don't get down if you have a bad day, you just start again the next day.

"When you go to class, you don't have to stand in front of everyone and tell them what happened if you gained that week, it is up to you if you want to share."

Dawne has lost three stone since joining the group and is now enjoying being able to walk into any shop and buy any clothes she likes. She said she has a new-found confidence and does not fixate on the size label on clothes after finding they differ from shop to shop.
