Oil protects against type 2 diabetes?

June 9, 2019  12:15

American experts have concluded that taking large amounts of fish oil does not protect against the development of type 2 diabetes, the New England Journal of Medicine reported.

A team of experts led by Myrlene Staten from the US National Institutes of Health in Bethesda conducted a study of about 2.5 thousand people who had a pre-diabetic condition. The subjects were given high doses of a synthetic analogue of fish oil, which exceeded the norm by almost eight times.

According to the results of three-year observations of the health of test subjects scientists found that taking vitamin D did not affect the incidence of diabetes. Comparing the obtained results with the data of the control group, the participants of which did not take fish oil, the experts found in both groups the incidence of diabetes at a similar level.
