Scientists have calculated how much plastic gets the human body through bottled water, food, and air, ES&T reported referring to study.

According to the source, each person consumes about 75 thousand plastic microparticles annually. The indicator is based on the analysis of scientific papers on the content of plastic in fish, meat and vegetable products. Further, the data were compared with the typical diet of a US resident.

According to experts, the main sources of plastic are bottled water, sugar and seafood. Taking into account the plastic microparticles that are inhaled along with the air, a person can absorb up to 120 thousand particles of polyethylene garbage.

Whether the plastic affects the human digestive system, scientists have yet to figure out.
