Girl, 7, loses her arm, infected with carnivorous bacteria in hotel pool

Amillian 'Mimi' Villa, seven, from The Bronx, went swimming at the pool for a birthday party in October 2017 and contracted carnivorous bacteria in the hotel pool, Daily Mail reported.

A few days after the celebration, Mimi felt a strong pain in her left arm and had a fever. However, the doctors at the initial examination did not reveal any violations and decided that the girl most likely sprained her arm. Meanwhile, the limb began to swell and became purple.

The relatives transferred ‘Mimi’ to another hospital, where the doctors made the correct diagnosis: necrotizing fasciitis caused by group A streptococcus. The surgeons tried to save the girl’s hand, but eventually, they had to amputate her arm. The child spent three months in the intensive care unit.

The incident occurred in the fall of 2017, and since then, Mimi has learned how to dress, tie shoes and even play basketball. Also, the girl has mastered the culinary skills and prepares sandwiches with peanut butter and jelly.

‘Mimi’ gained self-confidence and demonstrates a strong character, asking for help only when it is necessary and thanks to the help of a non-profit organization, Mimi received a handmade doll that looks like her including brown hair, brown eyes, and just a right arm.
