Veganism can increase effectiveness of cancer treatment

August 6, 2019  18:03

A study in Nature magazine shows that a certain diet for a person diagnosed with cancer can increase effectiveness of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Scientists conducted experiments on rodents by removing methionine from their diets (methionine is contained in meat, fish and dairy products). It turned out that this allowed to suppress the growth of cancer lumps in the rodents.

Afterwards, the experiment was conducted with 5 men and women (between the ages of 49 and 58) who followed a diet excluding products containing methionine. The head of the research team, Professor of Duke University (USA) Jason Locasale states that the impact of the reduction of methionine on the metabolism of cancer cells of both rodents and human beings is the same.

Fruits, walnuts, vegetables, cereals and beans are foods that contain less methionine, and this is close to veganism.
