UK: Woman postpones cancer treatment to give birth to son
UK resident, Kerri Hannay, 33, postponed the treatment of cancer for the sake of giving birth to a son, Daily Mail reported.
According to the source, the diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia was made when a woman was expecting her second child. Doctors suggested she terminate the pregnancy and begin treatment, but Kerry decided to temporarily abandon the rescue therapy, and to give birth to a baby. The baby, who was named James, was born five weeks ahead of schedule, using a cesarean section.
Just four days after the birthday, Kerry began a course of chemotherapy. Due to stress, she developed post-traumatic stress syndrome, but she tried not to despair. Fortunately, after a six-month treatment, she came in remission.
Kerry is now trying to spend as much time as possible with her children, and is working with the Leukemia Care charity to raise awareness about the symptoms of blood cancer.
