90% of Chinese-made optical glasses sold in Armenia have no certification

August 16, 2019  13:40

Chinese-made optical glasses sold in Armenia in 90% of cases do not have quality certificates, Armen Poghosyan, chair of the Armenian Consumers Association told reporters on Friday.

According to him, the Association monitored 55 Yerevan points of trade in optics.

“Italian and German-made optical glasses are certified, but Chinese-made goods in 90% have no certification.

This situation is of concern given the direct impact of the quality of optical glasses on human health, he noted adding that the solution to this issue is in the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Economy and the Inspection Body for Market Supervision.

With a proposal to include optical glasses in the list of products subject to mandatory certification, a corresponding letter was sent to the Minister Tigran Khachatryan in early August.
