Omega-3 fatty acids lower triglycerides by 20-30%

Omega-3 fatty acids actually lower triglycerides by 20-30%, said in a new documents by the American Heart Association.

Association experts conducted an analysis of 17 studies and found that with the daily intake of four grams of omega-3 as part of therapeutic agents, along with drugs that lower cholesterol, significant positive changes can be achieved.

According to Medical Express, in a study published in the journal Circulation Association, scientists tested the effect of two types of drugs with fatty acids. The first delivered EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) into the body. The second is just the EPA.

Both remedies worked well. The effective dose is only four grams of omega-3 as it turned out.

If people with high triglycerides take an EPA-only drug along with statins, the number of heart attacks, strokes, or deaths associated with cardiovascular abnormalities is reduced by 25%.

Experts noted that these findings do not apply to conventional dietary supplements containing fish oil.

By the way, if the level of triglycerides is higher than 200 milligrams per deciliter of blood, this can lead to the development of atherosclerosis. And when the mark of 500 milligrams is exceeded, the patient may develop pancreatitis, inflammation of the pancreas and other problems.
