Traumatologist speaks on threats of baby walkers

August 23, 2019  19:43

Walkers are far from being as safe for the health of the child as it is commonly believed, the head of the department of pediatric orthopedics and traumatology of the Research Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics, Ara Ayvazyan, told NEWS.am.

According to him, the child is using baby walkers 2-3 months earlier, when the body is not ready for a vertical load.

Ayvazyan draws attention to the fact that during this period the child’s bones are not as dense as those of an adult, and the joints are underdeveloped. Thus, vertical loading can cause limb curvature.

Ayvazyan’s main advice to parents is not to rush.

However, he sees no danger for the kangaroo bags for children up to six months.
