An excess of vitamins B6, B9 and B12 may reportedly increase the risk of lung cancer, said experts from the Nutrition Institute at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein.

Scientists have found that the higher the level of vitamin B12, the higher the risk of developing lung cancer. Genetic analysis also showed that some gene variations increase B12 levels in the blood. And carriers of these variations are more likely to suffer from lung cancer.

According to experts, the risk of developing cancer increases if the daily intake of vitamin B12 exceeds 55 micrograms: smokers with this amount of vitamin Risk increases 3-4 times. At the same time, there are dietary supplements on the market that contain up to 1000 micrograms of vitamin B12.

Scientists do not yet know what mechanisms vitamins affect the risk of cancer. Perhaps the vitamin affects DNA or directly feeds cancer cells.
