Women are not recommended to eat a lot of potatoes, said scientists from Harvard University, as those who abuse potatoes are at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Specialists analyzed the nutrition data for 84, 555 women collected over 20 years. It turned out that a love of potato dishes can increase the risk of developing diabetes by 14%. And those who often ate french fries, the risk of diabetes increased by 21%.

Scientists also noted that I’m especially at risk for diabetes due to potatoes of an overweight woman - and the more excess weight, the higher the likelihood of developing diabetes.

Potato itself is not harmful: it contains useful mineral substances and is recommended for people with impaired heart and kidneys. At the same time, experts emphasize, potatoes have a high glycemic index, which means that after its use the level of glucose in the blood rises sharply. If there are often foods that promote such jumps in glucose levels, this can lead to impaired mechanisms responsible for the uptake of glucose by the tissues, which in turn will increase the risk of diabetes.
