Google plans to protect users from dubious medical information

September 17, 2019  19:30

Google is introducing a new advertising policy for healthcare services and treatments from October 1, 2019. Advertising experimental and unregistered drugs that lack a scientific evidence base will be prohibited.

According to Google, the purpose of this innovation is to protect users from the use of treatment methods, the effectiveness and safety of which has not yet been proven and which, in theory, can be dangerous for patients.

The ban will also affect experimental treatment methods, for which there is still insufficient experience with universal application in clinical practice, even if they are based on scientific principles and have undergone some research.

The bans will also affect the promotion of stem cell-based treatments and genetic therapies that have no scientific evidence.
