US doctors find possible explanation for cause of disease of people who vape

Doctors at the Mayo Clinic in the US state of Minnesota have concluded that lung diseases, including fatalities, among those who vape in the US can be caused by toxic substances in the vapes, according to a study by doctors published in the journal New England Journal of Medicine, CNBC reported

“It seems to be some kind of direct chemical injury, similar to what one might see with exposures to toxic chemical fumes, poisonous gases and toxic agents,” said Dr. Brandon Larsen, a surgical pathologist at Mayo Clinic Arizona and a lead author of the study. “Based on what we have seen in our study, we suspect that most cases involve chemical contaminants, toxic byproducts or other noxious agents within vape liquids.”

A number of states have banned the sale of flavored vape mixtures, and US President Donald Trump has announced an imminent ban on their sale in the country, but the timing has not yet been announced. It is assumed that sellers will be required to obtain permission to sell each type of such products from the authorities, but the mechanism has not yet been established.
