Why exercising outside may be hazardous

It is better to go in for sports indoors, but not in the fresh air, as researchers from South Korea believe. The fact is that in the air today there are a lot of toxic harmful particles that a person involved in sports actively breathes.

Specialists evaluated the effects of fine particulate matter, the main air pollutant produced in large quantities by diesel cars and stoves, as well as wood burning fireplaces.

When scientists exposed the follicles of human hair to these particles in the laboratory, it turned out that this led to a decrease in the level of proteins responsible for hair growth.

Presenting the data of their research at the 28th EADV Congress 2019 in Madrid , the researchers suggested that limiting the time that a person spends training on the streets of modern cities can be an effective means of preventing hair loss.

However, other studies have shown that poor air quality has far more serious health effects than hair loss. Dirty air provokes asthma, chronic bronchitis and heart disease, strokes and senile dementia. Air pollution increases the risk of lung tumors, dirty air slows the development of the baby's lungs.

According to The Daily Mail, in the UK alone, poisoned air is directly or indirectly associated with 36,000 deaths annually, as a study by scientists from King's College London in 2018 showed.
