There were cases when the health workers themselves encouraged the parents to abandon their newborn, telling them about birth defects or child, Armenian Health Minister Arsen Torosyan told reporters on Thursday.

According to him, there are 2 methods of combating the sale of children and illegal adoption - prevention and punishment. As part of the prevention, it is planned to conduct trainings with health workers, as well as take measures to more effectively regulate the procedures that should be performed in the case of stillbirth or the death of a child shortly after birth, so that parents do not have questions about where their child is and why they were not shown body.

With regard to punishments, according to the minister, it is necessary to find out exactly who was involved in the case of the illegal adoption of children, and if the guilt of specific doctors is proved, they should be punished, regardless of the position and length of service.

The Investigative Committee has already taken up a criminal case initiated by the Investigative Department of the Armenian National Security Service on cases of selling or buying children, disclosing adoption secrets, giving a bribe, abuse of authority by trade representatives or other organizations, etc. .

Within the case instituted in cases of unlawful adoption of Armenian children by foreigners, three persons were charged.
