Reuters: Australia says as many as 10 million people globally may have been infected by COVID-19

As many as 10 million people in the world can be infected with COVID-19, said Australia’s chief medical officer on Friday.

According to him, there is lack of testing in some countries, Reuters reported.

“Worldwide we have passed 1 million infections. But we believe the true number is five or 10 times as much,” Brendan Murphy told reporters.

According to him, China - where the outbreak began late last year - has only recently started counting asymptomatic cases of COVID-19, prompting criticism from some international experts.

According to Murphy, “the only numbers I have total faith in are the Australian numbers, frankly.”

Australia has confirmed almost 5,300 cases and 28 deaths. The number of COVID-19 infected globally has exceeded 1 million.

According to worldometers.info/coronavirus/, more than 53,000 people died and over 212, 995 recovered.
