Almost one in ten people in some parts of China has experienced post-traumatic stress problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Psychiatry Research reported referring to a new study.

The scientist from the Naval Medical University in Shanghai and her colleagues evaluated the prevalence and predictors of post-traumatic stress disorder in areas of China most affected by the outbreak of coronavirus.

The prevalence of post-traumatic stress in the most affected areas of China a month after the COVID-19 outbreak was 7%. A significantly higher rate was seen in women.

According to the authors of the study, professional and effective programs should be developed by mental health services to help the psychological well-being of the population in the affected areas of China, especially those who are most vulnerable - women, the elderly.
