New tool can predict risk of COVID-19 positive test

Scientists from the Cleveland Clinic (US) have developed a tool that can predict the risk of a positive COVID-19 test. The preprint of the study was published on Chest, Lenta.ru reported.

After analyzing the medical history of nearly 12,000 COVID-19 patients, scientists identified patterns explaining the methods of effective protection against coronavirus. They also identified 16 drugs and three-drug combinations that can be used in COVID-19 treatment and prevention.

The studies have shown that melatonin reduces the risk of getting a positive test result for COVID-19, a lead researcher noted.

The study also showed that those who received the pneumococcal vaccine and the flu vaccine had a higher risk of infection than those who did not receive the vaccination. However, experts noted that these findings need additional verification.

The findings have confirmed several risk factors, for example, that older men are more susceptible to coronavirus than other social groups.

Scientists have also created an online calculator that can predict the likelihood of getting COVID-19. The tool works based on data on a person, including age, gender, ethnicity, the presence or absence of chronic diseases, and the region of residence.
