August 10, 2020  09:35

A large outbreak of salmonellosis was recorded in the US: about 640 people in 43 states were infected, CNN reported.

The infection was caused by onions sold at the country's largest malls: Walmart, Kroger, Fred Meyer, Publix, Giant Eagle, Food Lion and H-E-B, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

An outbreak of infection was recorded in the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Illinois, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Texas, Wisconsin, Wyoming.

The country's Food and Drug Administration has urged people not to buy onions supplied by Thomson International.

This warning applies to white, yellow and sweet onions. Residents were advised to throw out of the refrigerator all products that may contain salmonella.

Many companies have recalled shipments of onions and potentially hazardous products.

Symptoms of salmonellosis include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps.
