To survive war and not to die of blood clots: Amputee Armenian soldiers needing anticoagulants and other medications

Many organizations and individuals today are raising funds to purchase prostheses for soldiers who lost their limbs in the war of Artsakh.

In addition to prostheses, these people also need medications that will help them to survive till they get prosthetics. Recently a young man in Armenia died of thromboembolism: he survived the war, he underwent several operations but died shortly after he was discharged from the hospital.

According to Armine Barkhudaryan, the founder of the Traveling Doctors of Armenia NGO, he died because of an ordinary blood clot.

The specialist added that many amputees require anticoagulants, medications that thin the blood. But these medications are quite expensive, and not every family can afford to buy them.

As a result, some soldiers with amputated limbs, returning home from the hospital, are left without these medications, which can lead to tragic consequences.

Now many people are raising money for prostheses, which will be installed in these soldiers in 6 months, Barkhudaryan said. But right now they need medications, including anticoagulants. If they have blood clots and do not take these medications, they may no longer need a prosthesis, and the money collected for the prosthesis may have to be spent on buying a wreath, she added.

Traveling doctors of Armenia is currently running several projects to help people affected by the hostilities.

The more donations there are, the more people can be provided with everything they need.

Those wishing to help the public organization can transfer money to the following accounts:
