People with which blood group are more at risk for diabetes?

The likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes may depend not only on such risk factors as being overweight and sedentary but also on the blood type.

Scientists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the United States argue that if a patient has prediabetes, that is, a pathological condition in which blood sugar levels are elevated, but not yet sufficient to diagnose full-fledged diabetes, the development of this serious disease can be slowed down or even prevented by certain changes in a way of life. First of all, this is a nutritional correction, a reduction in calorie intake, and intense physical activity.

However, there are risk factors that do not depend on lifestyle. Thus, a study showed that people with all blood types except the first are at a higher risk of developing diabetes.

These findings were made in a study involving more than 80,000 women. 3,553 of them were subsequently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and as it turned out, the owners of all blood groups except the first contracted it more often. The highest risk was in those with the third blood group - it was 21% higher than the same risk compared to those who had the first blood group. Women with type 2 diabetes were 10% more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than women with type 1 diabetes.
