COVID-19 may affect male health: 2 men needed penile prosthetics

Coronavirus infection can negatively affect men's health: in an article published in the World Journal of Men's Health, reproductive urology specialists from the US talked about two patients who had had COVID-19 6 and 8 months before the study, after which they had to get a penile prosthesis due to severe erectile dysfunction.

According to scientists, before the coronavirus infection, patients did not have such problems. In one man, the infection was severe, and in the second, in a milder form, but he was initially diagnosed with thrombosis and hypertension.

Experts examined the tissues of the affected men's penis. It turned out that although a lot of time has passed since getting rid of the coronavirus infection, scientists have found viral particles in the tissues of the penis. Plus, endothelial dysfunction was recorded - a violation of the inner lining of the small blood vessels of the penis.

These injuries provoked a lack of blood supply to the genitals and, as a result, erectile dysfunction, scientists say. Interestingly, the other two men, who also suffered from severe impotence, but did not suffer from COVID-19, did not have such capillary damage in the tissues of the penis.
