British or Indian: Which strain of COVID-19 is more dangerous?

June 18, 2021  11:50

The Indian strain of coronavirus is more dangerous than Briathan, according to researchers who analyzed data from sick patients in Scotland.

According to the study, the results of which were published in the medical journal The Lancet, the risk of hospitalization in patients with the Indian strain of coronavirus is twice as high compared to those who have contracted the British strain.

Vaccination has proven to be an effective method to reduce the risk of infection, Ria.ru reports. However, vaccines are reported to be much better at protecting against British infections than Indian ones.

The Indian strain of coronavirus, named B.1.617, is known for its double mutation. The strain could be one of the reasons for the second wave of COVID-19 in India. Earlier, this variant of the virus has been found in many countries.
