COVID-19 affects male reproductive system

June 25, 2021  09:51

The COVID-19 can damage not only the lungs, but also the reproductive organs of men, and more and more studies confirm this. But vaccines against coronavirus are safe for the reproductive system.

According to Medportal.ru, a new study was conducted by scientists from the University of Texas, who in laboratory conditions infected hamsters with coronavirus. These rodents are often used to simulate the course of coronavirus infection in humans.

SARS-CoV-2 particles were detected in the testes of all infected hamsters during the first week, but later the viral load gradually decreased. Experts suggested that this process can also occur in all men with COVID-19, regardless of the severity of its course.

In support of their conclusions, the authors of the study noted that patients with coronavirus often complain of pain in the groin and testicles, some of them have decreased testosterone levels.

During the autopsy of the bodies of those who died from COVID-19, a malfunction of the testicles at the cellular level was revealed.

Earlier, scientists from the University of Miami found that vaccination against coronavirus does not cause infertility, at least in men: vaccines do not worsen the quality of spermatozoa and do not interfere with their concentration.
