Delta strain of COVID-19 has high pathogenicity, scientists claim

August 3, 2021  21:23

The Delta strain of coronavirus has the highest pathogenicity among other variants of the virus, scientists from the University of Tokyo noted.

According to TASS, during the study, specialists artificially created viruses carrying the P681R mutation - the most characteristic mutation for all strains of the Indian variation of the coronavirus. It also turned out that coronavirus infection destroys cells, which then merge into a single mass called synthesia.

In the course of an experiment with rodents, experts found that infection with a delta strain leads to an increased volume of synticia, 2.7 times the mass of similar formations when infected with other variants of the coronavirus. According to the researchers, it is this factor that causes a greater tendency to various pathologies.

Also, rodents infected with the P681R mutation virus lost 4.7-6.9% more in weight compared to the topic who was infected with other strains.
