Expert: Armenia will report 5,930 new COVID-19 cases in next 7 days, 30% will be hospitalized

The coronavirus reproduction indicator has increased up to 1.2 over the past few days, and if actions aren’t taken, Armenia will report 5,930 new cases in the next seven days. Romella Abovyan, head of the Epidemiology Department of Nosocomial Infections at the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Armenia, told this to reporters Wednesday.

According to her, nearly 30% of patients will be hospitalized, and 3% of them will be in need of intensive therapy.

Abovyan added that the epidemiological situation in Armenia is currently tense (there has been 18% increase of cases over the past 14 days). The share of tests with positive results has also grown and reached 11%.

As of Wednesday morning, 273 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Armenia, and the total number of these cases has reached 254,709 in the country.

Also, 20 more deaths from COVID-19 were registered, making the respective total 5,181 cases.

The number of people who have recovered over the past one day is 295, the total respective number so far is 237,263, and the number of people currently being treated is 11,072.

And 4,138 COVID-19 tests were conducted in Armenia over the past one day, while 1,664,154 such tests have been performed to date.
