Whether COVID-19 may cause stillbirth?

November 22, 2021  23:38

Coronavirus can cause stillbirth in pregnant women, specialists from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) noted.

American doctors studied the data of 1.2 million women in labor from March 2020 to September 2021.

Although stillbirth was rare, experts found a link between COVID-19 and the birth of dead babies: COVID-19 diagnosed in patients increased the risk of losing a child by up to 0.98%.

According to the available data, the rates of stillbirth were especially high during the period of dominance in the United States of the delta strain - up to 2.7%. As scientists noted, the course of the coronavirus causes hypoperfusion (decreased blood supply) and inflammation of the placenta.
