Health minister: Cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19 not yet reported in Armenia

No cases of the new—Omicron—variant of the coronavirus have been registered in Armenia yet, Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan told reporters Monday.

According to her, the COVID-19 variants are not identified by PCR tests, but by a special test which envisions sequencing of this virus. She added that such tests are conducted in Armenia on a regular basis.

As per the minister, some respective samples have been sent to the laboratory, no cases of the Omicron variant have yet been registered in Armenia, and if this variant is detected in the country, the public will be informed about it.
