Why is Omicron strain so dangerous for children?
A new strain of the coronavirus "omicron" is especially dangerous for children from 2 to 5 years old, said Alexander Gorelov, deputy director of the Central Research Institute of the Russian Federal Consumer Rights Protection and Human Health Control Service.
According to him, for the first time children infected with coronavirus have bronchiolitis, which is so severe that it requires hospitalization.
In a conversation with TASS, the specialist noted that young children are increasingly becoming infected and facing problems against the background of the spread of the new strain of the virus. In the past, small children either did not become infected or had a mild form of COVID-19. Now the disease is affecting the upper respiratory tract and bronchi in children.
People over the age of 65 remain at risk.
For pregnant women, coronavirus is also dangerous, since an infection suffered during pregnancy can affect the development of the unborn child. It can have delayed neuro-psychological and physical development.
