Vaping contributes to development of type 2 diabetes

March 4, 2022  17:42

Vaping contributes to the development of type 2 diabetes, scientists from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in the United States have found, American Journal of Preventive Medicine writes.

The scientists analyzed data from more than 600,000 people, 9% of whom were actively using e-cigarettes and also observed symptoms of prediabetes. The risk of developing type 2 diabetes among vape smokers was 1.54 times higher compared to those who did not use nicotine this way.

The authors of the study believe that the reason for the increased risk may lie in the nicotine, which can affect the production of insulin in the body.

Researchers also noticed reduced physical and mental health among e-cigarette users.
