Will type 2 diabetes be treated with ultrasound?

April 8, 2022  16:37

International scientists are proposing the use of ultrasound for noninvasive treatment of type 2 diabetes.

The results of a new study are described in Nature Biomedical Engineering.

The team at Yale Medical School and their international colleagues wanted to find a way to make diabetes uncontrollable through regular blood tests, insulin injections, and drug treatments. Their research continued for six years.

In the latest trial, the experts studied the effects of ultrasound on specific neurometabolic connections in the body to prevent or stop the development of type 2 diabetes in three different preclinical models. The effect of ultrasound on blood glucose levels showed positive results in preclinical trials, so now a new round of research awaits the scientists.

Specialists will also further investigate the effects of alternative dosing, such as the type of ultrasound pulse and duration of treatment.
