In an interview with SOLENKA.INFO Alexander Sukhanov, a cardiologist, told what reduces the risk of heart attack by 5 times.

According to the cardiologist, such a useful habit as regular stair climbing with extra weight may help to prevent many serious diseases.

The specialist told about a study conducted by Italian scientists, who proved that such physical activity slows down the loss of muscle mass and reduces the risk of fractures, protects against metabolic syndrome, helps pull up and strengthen the leg, gluteal and abs muscles, helps get rid of excess weight, normalizes blood pressure and cholesterol levels, improves posture and has a positive effect on cardiovascular system function, thereby reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke by five times.

For untrained people, a cardiologist recommends starting with one-minute stair climbs three times a week. Gradually the time may be increased to 10-30 minutes. In addition, it is very important to follow the simple rules of safety:

- First you need to do joint exercises, which should be performed at the same pace as the planned stair climbing;

- When ascending, your posture should be straight;

- When descending, the pace should be reduced;

- In the end you should do relaxing exercises.

Sukhanov also advises combining stair climbing with strength training.
