Study shows how amount of income affects depression

November 12, 2022  14:39

People with high incomes are just as likely to suffer from depression as people with low incomes, according to a study by US researchers that was published in the American Psychologist magazine.

A total of 498,000 people from the US participated in the aforesaid study by researchers at the University of Utah. The researchers took into account the gender, age, income level, education, and background of these people. Depressive symptoms were assessed using questionnaires.

As a result, income was found to be associated with depressive symptoms. Moreover, people with average income had significantly less depressive symptoms. A similar dependence was observed for years spent in education—but only for participants of European descent.
