Botox proves to be effective treatment for erectile dysfunction

December 12, 2022  23:45

Botox proved to be an effective treatment for erectile dysfunction, researchers from Brussels University found. The review was published in the journal Urology.

The authors of the review reviewed seven studies on the use of Botox for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. They involved 362 men, and the studies themselves were conducted back in the 1990s and included human and animal data. The review did not indicate whether all men had erectile dysfunction or how severe their cases were.

Botulinum toxin interferes with the transmission of nerve signals in muscles, causing them to relax. Scientists suggest that Botox injections in the penis improve erections by relaxing the smooth muscles. This supposedly improves the blood supply to the organ. The effect lasts for several months.

The proposed method may be useful for men who do not respond to standard treatment. At this point, there is no evidence to indicate that Botox is harmful to sperm, but the safety of such use of the substance has yet to be proven.
