How to get rid of peanut allergies?

January 11, 2023  18:55

Consumption of small portions of cooked peanuts can help overcome peanut allergies, Australian scientists have shown.  The results of a clinical trial by scientists from Flinders University have been published in the journal Clinical & Experimental Allergy.

It turned out that heating to high temperatures can affect the structure and immunoreactivity of peanut allergens. Researchers suggested that therapy using small doses of cooked peanuts could help children overcome peanut allergies.

In the study, 70 children ages 6 to 18 with peanut allergies received peanuts that were boiled for 12 weeks. Then they received peanuts boiled for 2 hours for 20 weeks, and then they received roasted peanuts for 20 weeks.

56 of the 70 (80%) participants were no longer sensitive to peanuts. Of the 45 children who were followed six months after the trial ended, 43 were still consuming peanuts regularly.

The scientists' methodology requires refinement and further research and should not be used without consulting a physician.
