Robot dentist performed surgery on a human for the first time

August 5, 2024  22:34

A robotic dentist with artificial intelligence, developed by the company Perceptive, for the first time performed a dental procedure on a human. About it writes the publication New Atlas.

According to scientists, the use of a high-precision 3D-scanner allows you to create a detailed model of the mouth without the use of X-rays, which speeds up the process and reduces the harmful effects on the patient.

The robot managed the task of preparing a tooth for a crown in just 15 minutes, whereas a conventional dentist takes about two hours. The developers claim that the machine is able to work safely even with strong movements of the patient. All human trials conducted have been successful.

Chris Ciriello, CEO of Perceptive, expressed confidence that their innovation will increase the accuracy and efficiency of dental procedures, as well as make them more accessible to a wide range of people. That said, the robot has yet to receive FDA approval. The company plans to expand the functionality of the device and add new procedures in the near future.
