A young mum woke up from a coma thinking she was just 13-years-old after her heart stopped during labour.

Shannon Everett, 22, from Cwmbran in Gwent, South Wales suffered an amniotic fluid embolism as she gave birth to Nico in September.

To save her life she was put in a medically induced coma but when she woke up two weeks later she had no idea who her fiance or her two children were.

Mum Nicola Everett told The Mirror: ‘We went to the hospital that day in September expecting to come home with a new baby, but it’s like we have another child, too, because Shannon needs a lot of care.’

Shannon has been left barely able to see following the brain injury and is being cared for at her mum’s home.

Fiance Ioan has been trying to jog her memory with videos of their other child, three-year-old Mika and the family is fundraising towards her care.

Shannon will have to relearn how to do everything again, including feeding herself and walking, but is still mainly confined to a wheelchair.

Her mum promised Ioan she will get Shannon to walk down the aisle one day.

She said: ‘When she was in intensive care, I told Ioan that I wouldn’t think any less of him if he left her, but he told me there was no way. He loved her and he knew he wanted to marry her.’

Shannon was admitted to hospital on September 29. When in the delivery room she told her mum and fiance that she loved them, then her heart stopped.
